Frick to talk salmon bake history on KSQM

As the story goes, Rotarian Cy Frick used a shot from his favorite revolver to direct attention from his fellow Rotarians toward his proposal for a salmon bake fundraiser.

Five decades later, the bake is still going strong.

Frick will recount the history of the Rotary Club of Sequim’s salmon bake — set this year for Sunday, Aug. 12, at the Sequim Boys & Girls Club — in a live interview at 1 p.m. on Aug. 6 on KSQM FM 91.5.

Frick, a pharmacist by trade, was Rotary Club of Sequim’s Community Service Chairman when he proposed the event. Later serving as club president, he helped develop the first bake that was held at Pitship Point on West Sequim Bay, now the location of John Wayne Marina.

This year’s event is slated for noon-4 p.m. on Aug. 12, with live music and vendor booths, raffles and exhibits.

Before the event, tickets can be purchased for $16 at The Boys & Girls Club, Sequim-Dungeness Chamber of Commerce, Beal Carpet & Drapery, Thomas Building Center and from Sequim Noon Rotary club members.

Tickets will be available at the door for $18 on the day of the event; hot dog plates for children younger than 12 are $5 each.
