Mathew Craig just extended his season.

The Sequim High sophomore scored 265 points at an 11-dive meet at Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor on Jan. 23, earning a spot at the West Central District tournament.

Craig, who placed seventh at districts and 15th at the class 2A state meet last season as a freshman, used an array of dives to place 12th overall out of 28 competitors, and among the top three divers from class 2A schools, at the Gig Harbor meet.

Craig will look to better his score at a postseason qualifier at Mount Rainier High School on Jan. 29, adding more challenging dives to his list and improving newer, harder dives he’s already added this year.

“While Mathew was not to happy with his first eight dives today, he finished his last three very solid and left satisfied with his overall performance,” his father Peter Craig said.
