Peninsula College’s basketball and soccer squads and fans can say so long to the rather verbose conference name.

The Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges office announced this week it is changing the conference name, acronym (NWAACC) and logo to the simpler NWAC (Northwest Athletic Conference).

“Research has shown us that our logo was large and extremely difficult to transpose onto a variety of materials,” conference officials stated in a press release.

“The new logo(s) should be easier to work with and simpler to transpose onto surfaces and materials,” the release states. “Reducing the acronym from NWAACC to NWAC allows us to reduce the size, yet still allows the same verbalization that has been used for years. The four stars represent the four regions that make up the NWAC.”

Because of the changes, the conference has a new website at www.nwacsports.com.
