Cross country: Stevens sweeps middle school league meet

Port Angeles’ Stevens Middle School’s boys and girls raced to a clean sweep at the North Olympic Middle School Cross Country championships on Oct. 29 at Lincoln Park in Port Angeles, with Sequim teams placing second in both.

On the girls’ side, Port Angeles edged Sequim in total points, 22 to 33 (lower score wins). Ella Holland and Delaney Wenzl of Port Angeles went 1-2 with Sequim’s Jessica Dietzman placing third, finishing the 3,200-meter course in 13:33, 23 seconds behind Holland.

Sequim’s Christina Mingoy (sixth, 15:31), Isabelle Hugoniot (15:32), Emily Glenn (seventh, 15:43), Emily Glenn (eighth, 15:43) and Brianna Jack (ninth, 15:53) rounded out the Timberwolves’ top finishers.

On the boys’ side, Port Angeles dominated the meet with 17 team points to Sequim’s 59 and third-place finisher Blue Heron (Port Townsend), 62 points. Andrew St. George of Port Angeles led all runners with an 11:38 mark. Sequim’s top finishers were Ryan Tolberd (fourth, 12:28), Brenden Jack (11th, 13:52), Keith Wilwert (14th, 14:10), Cooper Bryan (19th, 15:39) and Brendon Dryke (20th, 15:58).
