The Wolves’ lone state diver and swimmer each took 22nd in their respective events on Friday, Nov. 15, at the 2A state swimming and diving championship in Federal Way.

Emily Van Dyken, in her second trip to state, scored 193.55 for 22nd after qualifying at the WCD III 2A districts meet the previous weekend where she placed eighth.

Dani Barrow, who took a wildcard spot into state after placing seventh in the 200 individual medley at districts, swam a 2:35.81 for 22nd at state.

Head coach Anita Benitez said her goal was for both girls to make it to the next day of events on Nov. 16. But both girls return next year as seniors and Benitez anticipates taking even more girls to districts and state next season.  

The girls cap off a 1-6 season for the Wolves.

Sequim sent three relay teams and four individual swimmers and divers to districts — the most for Sequim girls swimming and diving since 2007.

Four-time districts qualifier Cassi Calderon took 17th place in the 100 yard backstroke and Jessica Craig, a sophomore, placed 16th in the 100 yard breaststroke. Barrow also took 16th in the 100 yard freestyle race.

Calderon, Barrow, Craig and Kayley Lofstrom swam the 200 yard medley and took 11th. The same team with Victoria Fitzpatrick in for Lofstrom also took 11th in the 200 yard freestyle relay while the 400 yard freestyle team of Craig, Fitzpatrick, Lofstrom and Kailee Price took 12th.

The Wolves sent seven alternates including Price, Anika Van Dyken, Kendra Richardson, Jaycee Thompson, Addie Enges, Megan O’Mera and Stephanie Grow.
