The Lady Wolves tennis team opened its season splitting two matches with a home loss to the Olympic Trojans 4-3 on March 16 and a win away against the North Mason Bulldogs 5-2 on March 18.

Against Olympic, Sequim’s top three doubles teams all won. Karen Chan and Hannah Gauthun won No. 1 doubles 6-3, 6-4 over Jessica Peralta and Ally Galeski. Katey Wake and Cheyenne Sokkappa defeated Kyilene Trottman and Courtney Mckee; and Tea Gauthun and Kylee Williams winning No. 3 over Tenette Ancero and Anna Leong.

Some of the Sequim games on March 16 were the first held on the recently reopened bottom two tennis courts. School officials closed the courts due to safety concerns in the fall but repaired them for the spring with plans to assess the courts again in the summer.

In Sequim’s first team win against the Bulldogs, Kylee Williams won her No. 3 singles match, Chan and Hannah Gauthun won No. 1 doubles, Sokkappa and Wake won No. 2 doubles, Lindsey Carlson and Tea Gauthun won No. 3 doubles and Andrea Albaugh and Melissa Copeland won No. 4 doubles.

The Wolves’ match hosting Port Angeles on March 20 was postponed with a new date to be announced later. Sequim hosted Klahowya on Monday and Bremerton on Tuesday and it hosts Kingston on Thursday, March 26, before spring break.
