Help SHS football salute veterans with camo jerseys

Special uniforms on sale through July 14

Sequim Gazette staff

For one special night the Wolves will mesh the stars and stripes with camouflage, all to honor those who served.

Sequim High School’s football team hosts a “Salute to the Military” event when they take on the Bremerton Knights on Sept. 20.

Team members will wear special camouflage jerseys during the game and each jersey will be sponsored with the name of an active, retired or deceased solider or person who has served in a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.

The name of the soldier will be printed on the back side of the jersey where the player’s name traditionally goes. During the game, when a player makes a play, the soldier’s name on the jersey will be announced.

At the end of the game, players present their jerseys to the person who sponsored that jersey as a keepsake. The jerseys are 100 percent polyester.

Community members interested in sponsoring a jersey may fill out a sponsor form available at the Sequim District Office, 533 N. Sequim Ave., or call Christy Moroles at 775-9636, coach Dana Minard at 460-9249 or director of communications Patsene Dashiell at 582-3264.

Jerseys are $68 each.

You may sponsor more than one person and can order more than one of the same jersey (to wear in the stands, for example).

Deadline to sponsor a jersey is July 14.
