Former Sequim High soccer standouts Claire and Aidan Henninger are lacing up cleats for their respective college’s soccer teams this fall.
Claire starts in goal for Western Washington University, one of the top NCAA-Division II programs in the nation.
Henninger played more than 58 minutes in the Vikings’ most recent win, a 3-0 shutout of Montana State-Billings, on Oct. 15.
A graduate student at Western, she made a pair of saves while recording her fifth shutout of the season at the No. 7-ranked Vikings (9-0-1 in conference play, 10-1-3 overall) shut out of rival Seattle Pacific on Oct. 13.
She was also recently named to the 2022 Greater Northwest Conference Women’s Soccer All-Academic Team, one of 12 Vikings selected for the team.
In her high school playing days, Claire was named to the All-Olympic League First Team three times and twice earned 2A Honorable Mention All-State honors.
Aidan plays for Franciscan University, a private Catholic university in Steubenville, Ohio.
A freshman defender for the Barons, Aidan has helped Franciscan earn an 8-2-3 overall record this fall.
Henninger has played in 10 games, racking up 265 minutes of time on the pitch.
Aidan was a four-year varsity letter winner and first-team All-Olympic League pick in May. He paced a stout Wolves defense that qualified for the class 2A state tourney and added four goals on offense.
Sequim was 36-12-2 in his three seasons playing for SHS (2020 was canceled because of COVID).
