The 25th annual Saundra Kent Memorial Tennis Tournament is set for two weekends in August.
The first weekend is Aug. 6-8 and includes singles and senior doubles (ages 60 and older). Singles play includes men’s divisions 3.0-5.0 and 50+ while women’s divisions are 3.0-4.5 and 50+. Entries for those must be received by 5 p.m. on Aug. 1.
The second weekend is Aug. 13-15 with men’s, women’s and mixed doubles play. Levels are 3.0-5.0. Entries for these must be received by 5 p.m. on Aug. 8.
Entries are available at the Peninsula Tennis Club Web site at www.peninsulatennisclub.com.
All matches are scheduled to be played at the Erickson Park courts in Port Angeles.
The tourney features a special celebration and kick-off barbecue at Erickson Park. The event is named after Saundra Kent, a Port Angeles High School graduate who was one of the first recipients of a scholarship sponsored by the Peninsula Tennis Club.
Kent was popular in the community and active in tennis. After a year in college, Kent was diagnosed with leukemia and died that year. Her memory lives on in the community’s annual tournament and in the scholarships that go to high school seniors from Sequim and Port Angeles high schools.
