A low turnout in the first weekend of singles play didn’t deter a crowd of local tennis aficionados from hitting the courts at Erickson Park for the second weekend of the Saundra Kent Memorial tennis tournament, Aug. 9-11, in Port Angeles.
In mixed 9.0 doubles play, mother/son-in-law combo Beverly Hoffman and Doug Hastings of Sequim took both matches for the title. Karen Chrisman and Jeff Brown went 2-0 for the mixed 8.0 doubles crown.
Chrisman then teamed with Brannette Richards to win all three matches in winning the women’s 8.0 doubles championship, and Brown teamed with Rich Riski for the men’s 7.0 doubles title.
Hayden McCarty and Micah Roos of Port Angeles swept three matches for the men’s 8.0 doubles’ top spot.
Second-seeded Valli Quaintance and Dean Ratzman knocked off top seed Claudia Hayward and Kline Wilson, 6-1 and 6-3, in the championship match of the mixed 7.0 doubles division, the weekend’s only non-round robin bracket.
