Olympic Avalanche basketball team hosting tryouts

The Olympic Avalanche, a squad of select girls basketball players on the North Olympic Peninsula, is hosting tryouts for incoming sixth- and seventh-grade girls at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16.

The Olympic Avalanche, a squad of select girls basketball players on the North Olympic Peninsula, is hosting tryouts for incoming sixth- and seventh-grade girls at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, at Peninsula College, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

All interested players must attend the tryout.

Tryouts feature the direction of nationally known basketball trainer Chris Hyppa of CHB Basketball and Olympia’s Jimmy Anderson of Anderson Athletic Training.

The Avalanche will be expanding to two seventh-grade teams for the 2015-2016 season.

Avalanche basketball has won 10 tournament titles in the past two seasons and is one of the top programs in the Pacific Northwest.

Hoops camp coming

A Chris Hyppa Elite Skills camp is set for 10-2 p.m., Sept. 12-13, also at the college gymnasium.

Cost is $125 per player, with discounts for multiple family members.

The camp, sponsored by Olympic Avalanche Basketball, is an elite skills camp for advanced players. There is a 50-player maximum for the camp.
