New track, new results.
The Port Angeles Roughriders took a sweep of Sequim on their newly refurbished track & field complex last week, topping the Wolves 92-71 in the girls division and edging Sequim 71.5-70.5 on the boys’ side on April 17.
Last season, both of Sequim’s teams swept the Roughriders by at least 40 points.
Despite the slim losses to Port Angeles, Sequim did sweep a smaller Port Townsend squad and saw several standout performances along the way.
Derrell Jensen and Anna LaBeaume each earned three first-place finishes. LaBeaume showed she’s primed for another multiple-event showing at the state meet after winning the 100- and 200-meter sprints to go with her shot put win in Port Angeles, throwing the shot 38 feet, 4.5 inches. She also finished second in the long jump.
Jensen mirrored LaBeaume’s feats, winning the 100- and 200-meter races and scoring a win in the triple jump with a leap of 40 feet, 1 inch. He also helped Sequim’s 4×100 relay dash to a win.
On the girls’ side, Audrey Lichten added a pair of wins, taking the 1600 and 3200 races and finishing third in the 800-
meter race.
Lauryn Garrett won the long jump, took second in both hurdles events and was third in the high jump.
Samantha Whiteside was second in both 100- and 200-meter sprints, third in the 400-meter race and won the pole vault after clearing nine feet, seven inches.
Sierra Clark, Christina Bruce, Alex Rose-Albert and Laura Moser each earned two top-five placings.
For the boys, Ben Ohnstad earned big points with strong finishes in both the 3200 (second place) and 1600 (third) while Lindorfer topped all competitors in the 400.
David Copeland’s pole vault of 10-6 took first. Taking second-place finishes were Kevin Beck (discus), Stephen Stilts (110 hurdles), Emmanuel Herrera (300 hurdles) and Alex Jenkins (800).
The Wolves take on Bremerton and North Mason on April 23 at home.
Select Sequim athletes are scheduled to compete at the Tomahawk Classic in Marysville on April 25.
