‘Talking Rain’ hoops tourney set

The Port Angeles Recreation Department hosts the Talking Rain Sparkling Water Tipoff Tourney, Oct. 31-Nov. 1 for men’s basketball teams. The tourney features a four-game guarantee.

Entry fee is $235 per team. Games are in Port Angeles.

Touchdown Club to help football program

The Sequim High School’s football boosters are asking for public support by way of the Touchdown Club, a program that assists the football program with purchasing new uniforms, helmets and safety equipment.

With four levels of sponsorship – white, black, purple and gold – club organizers ask supporters to donate a dollar amount per touchdown scored this season. White level sponsorship pledges $5 per touchdown; black, $10; purple, $25; and gold, $50.

Donations, made through the Sequim Schools Athletic Booster Club, are tax-deductible (tax ID:91-1885052).

Volleyball league begins this month

Registration is under way for the 2009-2010 Peninsula Volleyball League.

The coed league offers play on Sunday nights at the Peninsula College gymnasium (1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles) for players with intermediate to advanced volleyball skills.

The registration fee of $200 per team is due by Nov. 1. Forms are available at the Peninsula College athletics Web site (pc.ctc.edu/life/athletics/default.aspx).

Players wishing to join teams are welcome to attend open gym nights, from 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 25. League play starts Nov. 1 and runs through February.

Self-defense classes set for November

The Sequim-based Bodystrong TaeKwon-Do, 244 W. Washington St., offers a series of self-defense classes on four Mondays in November, with each class from 6-7 p.m.

Brandon Stoppani, head instructor for Bodystrong TaeKwon-do and a black belt 5th dan in tae kwon do, leads the class. He has 30 years of self-defense experience.

Class topics include: Nov. 2, release from grabs; Nov. 9, revised release from grabs and basic offensive techniques; Nov. 16, basic offensive techniques; and Nov. 23, revise offensive techniques and combining defensive and offensive techniques.
