Hoops classic seeks teams

Port Angeles Parks & Recreation Department and the Red Lion Hotel are hosting the 19th Annual Presidents Day Classic youth basketball tournament, Feb. 16-17, with divisions for boys’ and girls’ teams from grades 5-9.

Each team is guaranteed four games and there is a $250 entry fee.

Free avalanche clinic offered

A free avalanche rescue clinic will be offered at Hurricane Ridge on Feb. 8. The clinic meets at the Hurricane Ridge Visitors Center at 10 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m. Basic avalanche rescue using transceivers is the main topic of these sessions.

Avalanche transceivers, shovels and probes will be available to use, although participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment if they have it.

Dusters seek fastpitch talent

The Diamond Dusters 18U Girls Fastpitch is hosting open tryouts through February for the 2013 season. 

Team officials are looking for players in all positions, including pitcher.
