Tailgate party planned, halibut explained, local gets first hole-in-one.

 

Cortez gets ace No. 8

Warren Cortez is no stranger to perfect shots. The Sequim native got his eighth hole-in-one last week, acing the eighth hole at The Cedars at Dungeness on April 8.

Cortez used a 9-iron to drive the 115-yard hole.

Robert Mares of Sequim and John Raske and Everett Thometz of Port Angeles witnessed the feat.

Tailgate party at 7 Cedars

It’s months away from the 2015 Seahawks season-opener but 7 Cedars Casino is hosting a ‘Hawks tailgate party, set to start at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18. Halibut how-to explained

The Puget Sound Anglers’ North Olympic Peninsula Chapter Meeting set for April 16 features John Beath, an expert fisherman, guide and club member. Halibut fishing season opens May 8 in fishing area 6, eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca.

How to fish for halibut in this area will be the topic of discussion. Beath will share his wealth of knowledge about how, when and where to catch halibut during this 11-day season.

The meeting starts at 6:45 p.m. and is at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave.
