Little League registration closes Jan. 1

Registration for Sequim Little League’s 2024season closes Monday, Jan. 1. Get more registration information at sequimlittleleague.com.

Those signing up after that date will be put on a waiting list, league officials said.

League officials are also seeking coaches and volunteers for all divisions, as well as for its board of directors.

Mandatory skills assessments are set for Feb. 3 (ages 10-12, softball and baseball) and Feb. 10 (softball and baseball).

Practices start on March 11, with Opening Day scheduled for noon on April 13 at Dr. James Standard Park, 124 W. Silberhorn Road.

Hegel gets second ace

Monte Hegel of Sequim sank his second lifetime hole-in-one at The Cedars at Dungeness golf course on Dec. 8.

Hegel used a 7-iron to drive the 134-yard hole No. 11 at The Cedars. Witnessing the feat was A.C. Pack of Port Angeles and Sequim mayor Tom Ferrell.

SHS grads lead teams to strong finishes

Former Sequim high cross country and track standouts Mike Cobb and Anton Clifford have their own high school running teams running swiftly and to top finishes.

Cobb, a Sequim High 2015 graduate, is an assistant coach for the cross county team at Issaquah High School, where he teaches physical education.

The Eagles’ boys placed first and girls took second at the Washington state 4A finals on Nov. 4.

Cobb is also the co-head coach for Issaquah High’s track and field team, overseeing the distance runners.

Clifford, a 2005 Sequim High grad, coaches the boys cross country team at Adrienne Nelson High School (Happy Valley, Ore.). The Hawks placed second in the 6A-4 Mt. Hood Conference Championships on Oct. 25 and 11th overall at the Oregon state 6A high school championships on Nov. 4. Clifford teaches science classes at Adrienne Nelson High.
