Tourney crowns champs, raises playground funds

A pair of teams tied for the championship while raising funds for the Dream Playground in Port Angeles this past weekend at The Cedars at Dungeness in Sequim.

The foursome of Alex Atwell, Tim Lusk, Danny Romero and Brandon Rux shot a 57, as did the team of Landon Cray, Richard Kiesel, Bob Nordberg and Pat Ryder, to claim top honors at the event that helps fund a major rebuild of portions of the community playground that burned to the ground in December.

Sponsors 7 Cedars Resort and Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe donated their fees plus $5,000 back to the playground effort, PGA professional Chad Wagner note, pushing the total raised to about $15,000.

Three teams tied for third after finishing a single shot back at 58: Wagner-Steve Kiele-Zac Moore-Devin Scott; Eric Hegge-Ryan Oase-Rick Smith-Steve Wilson, and Sid Krumpe-Joe Luce-Sam Luce-Mark Mitrovich.

Get bike tune-ups

The Olympic Discovery Trail has partnered with North Olympic Peninsula bicycle shops to offer its annual Bike Tune-Up Fundraiser through April 30.

Coupons are $80 and up to two can be purchased per transaction.

Softball clinic moved

Sequim Little League’s softball clinic planned for Sunday has been moved back a week to March 3.

The clinic, for girls of all skill levels ages 7-12, will run from 2-4 p.m. at the Carrie Blake Park softball field.

Players should dress in comfortable clothes and bring a glove, cleats, water bottle and “game spirit.”

Pitching, throwing and fielding skills will be taught.

There’s no advance registration, players should just show up for the clinic.

Rhody Run set

Registration for the 2024 Jefferson Healthcare Rhody Run is open through May 15.

The Rhody Run, which includes a 10-kilometer run, a 5K and a free kids run for ages 5 and under is set May 19.

Registration is $48.70 with fees included for the 10K and the 5K.

Register now for St. Patrick’s run

The fifth annual Great Olympic Peninsula St. Patrick’s Day Run/Walk will be held March 16.

The event includes a 1o-kilometer run/walk, a 5k and a 1-mile run/walk.

All events begin at Port Angeles City Pier at 10 a.m. and are out-and-backs along the Olympic Discovery Trail.

Each participant will get a long-sleeve 2024 Red, Set, Go shirt, a race bib, finisher medal and a goodie bag.

All proceeds benefit Olympic Medical Heart Center.

The fee is $35 per person. OMC employees receive $5 off registration.

Player registration for North Olympic Baseball & Softball’s spring season will run through Friday.
