Port Angeles archers tourney scheduled for Aug. 8-9

The Wapiti Bowmen Archery Club of Port Angeles is sponsoring a tournament for traditional archers at its club facility between Port Angeles and Sequim on Saturday, Aug. 8, and Sunday, Aug. 9.

Traditional shooters (no compound bows) will be able to shoot at 30 plus 3-D full sized targets.

Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. Breakfast and lunch is available on both days.

Softball stars get honor

Five Sequim High prep athletes were recently named to the All-Peninsula Girls Softball team, as determined by a poll of area coaches and the Peninsula Daily News sports staff.

Seniors Olivia Kirsch and Mary Lu Clift, juniors McKenzie Bentz and Allysen Montelius, and sophomore Kaylee Gumm were selected.

Kirsch hit .411, led Wolves with eight doubles and was named an all-league first team third baseman.

Clift, a shortstop, scored a team-high 29 runs with 22 RBIs and was named to the all-Olympic League second team.

Bentz, a pitcher and catcher, had 49 strikeouts, batted .347 and was an all-league first teamer.

Montelius, a pitcher and all-league first team player, finished second on Wolves with 25 RBI and 23 runs scored, batting .387.

Gumm, an all-league first team first baseman, hit .552 with six home runs and 33 RBIs.

SkyRidge play host to ‘Links’ tournament

SkyRidge Golf Course (7015 Old Olympic Highway) hosts the Clallam Links Open, set for Sunday, July 19.

Play starts after the British Open completes. Lunch is at noon, and a mini-shotgun start is at 1 p.m. Three divisions includes men’s amateur 0-14 handicap, men’s amateur 15-and-up handicap and women’s amateur.

Cost is $50 per player and includes 18 holes, range balls, KPs, longest putt competition and lunch.
