Hirschfeld gets an ace

Marine Hirschfeld (pictured, at left) of the Dungeness Women 18-Holers golf group celebrates a hole-in-one on at hole No. 17 at The Cedars at Dungeness on May 12. Hirschfeld used a 7 wood to drive the 130-yard hole. Bonney Benson and Donna MacLean, both of Sequim, witnessed the feat.

SkyRidge Golf Course puts on SHS football      fundraiser tournament

The “Golf for Football” golf tournament, hosted by SkyRidge Golf Course, is slated for an 8 a.m. check-in and a 9 a.m. shotgun start Saturday, June 6, at 7015 Old Olympic Highway, Sequim.

Funds go to the Sequim Football Booster Club to purchase equipment and help players attend football camps and participate in conditioning programs. Cost is $50 per person and includes 18 holes of golf, range balls and lunch. Golf carts are not included but may be rented for an additional $15 per seat.

The tourney is for up to 20 four-person teams. Participants may put their own team together or call SkyRidge at 683-3673 to be added to a team.

Pirates seek players for annual golf tourney

The annual Pirate Athletic Golf Tournament is set for May 29 and event director Mitch Freeman is looking for a few more groups to reach this year’s goal.

To date, 27 teams (108 golfers) are signed up in the four-person scramble format tournament. Freeman said he’s hoping for a full field of 36 teams, but would be pretty happy to surpass 30.

The tournament, which gets under way at noon at The Cedars at Dungeness golf course (1965 Woodcock Road), features 18 holes of golf, lunch, beverages, prizes, giveaways and a chance to win $10,000 or a new car from Ruddell Auto. Players can register at www.brownpapertickets.com and then search for Pirate Golf Tournament, or by calling Freeman at 417-6467 or by e-mail, mfreeman@pencol.edu.

Switzer gets ace No. 2

George Switzer of Sequim sank his second lifetime hole-in-one last week at The Cedars at Dungeness. On May 20, he used a 7 wood to drive the 150-yard hole No. 17 at The Cedars.

Pat Lauerman of Sequim, Mike Sutton of Port Angeles and Jack Giese of San Diego, Calif. witnessed the feat.
