No amount of wind or cold or rain was keeping these Vikings from a win.

The purple-clad visitors from North Kitsap showed depth and talent on the track and in the field as they swept a three-way league meet with Bremerton and host Sequim on April 11.

Sequim’s Wolves managed to earn a split on both boys’ and girls’ sides, knocking off a thin Bremerton contingent with a number of top finishes.

SHS senior Jayson Brocklesby took top  honors in the 200- and 400-meter events and fourth in the long jump. The school record-holder for the high jump took second in that event with a 6-foot jump, behind NK’s Taylor Stephens (6-2).

Mikey Cobb topped the field in the 3,200 meter race with a 10:47 mark and Lopaka Yasumura earned a first-place finish in the shot put (45-2).

Yasumura placed second in the 100-meter sprint, as did Oscar Herrera in the 300 hurdles.

North Kitsap paced the team scoring with 104 points, with Sequim second (57) and Bremerton third (20). Crescent High also competed but did not officially score.

On the girls’ side, defending state hurdles champ Reagan Coyler led the Vikings to a dominant win with 119.5 points, outpacing Sequim (44.5) and Bremerton (25).

Jasmine McMullin led the Wolves with two first-place finishes, winning the long jump (14-11) and triple jump (33-8). Sarah Hutchison cleared eight feet for a win in the pole vault while teammate Katelyn Rogers used a scissor kick-style approach to win the high jump (4-8).

Hutchison took second in the 100 hurdles — behind Coyler — while Audrey Shingleton (1600), Sarah Henry (discus) and the Wolves’ 4×400 relay team also earned runner-up finishes.

Sequim is back in action April 18 with its second and final home meet, taking on Port Angeles and Olympic. Select athletes compete at the Bremerton Invitational on April 20.

Showing strong in Snohomish

With just a few athletes in tow, Sequim’s Wolves posted several top-20 finishes at the Snohomish Invitational on April 13.

Brocklesby posted a second-place finish in the high jump (6-0) and was fourth in the 400-meter sprint (51.71).

Alex Barry posted a sixth-place mark in the triple jump (38-11.5) and ninth in the javelin (143-4).

Yasumura was 10th in the shot put while Cobb took 25th in the 1,600-meter race with a career-best 4:51.

On the girls’ side, Hutchison was 11th in the pole vault (9-6, a career-best) and Rogers took 18th in the high jump (4-6).
