Four weeks into the 2014 season, North Kitsap has emerged as the Olympic League’s top team.

But Sequim isn’t far behind.

The Wolves (6-1 in league, 8-1 overall) kept pace with the undefeated Vikings with a pair of league victories last week, including a key, 3-1 home win against Olympic on Oct. 9.

Rylie Roberts had a team-high eight kills and five aces, Emily Wallner had seven kills and 14 assists, Alyse Armstrong had six kills and 17 assists and Emma LeBlanc added 29 digs as Sequim won 25-19, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-18.

“We started a little slow each game but we managed to make some adjustment and get more focused each game,” Sequim coach Jennie Webber Heilman said.

“As a whole our team served very tough,” Webber Heilman said, noting Sequim’s 17 aces.

Reserves Sydney Balkan, Cheyanne Sokkappa and McKenzie Bentz came off the bench to combine for 12-for-12 serving.

Sequim got the week off to a winning start when they swept Bremerton on Oct. 7.

Armstrong and Wallner once again led the way, combining for 15 kills, 19 assists and 21-for-22 from behind the service line. LeBlanc was a perfect 12-for-12 on serves with three aces and paced the defense with 21 digs.

“We pretty much overpowered Bremerton,” Webber Heilman said. “Everyone was committed to covering the court well on defense with nearly everyone getting digs.”

Sequim was scheduled to plat at Kingston on Oct. 14. The Wolves host rival Port Angeles on Oct. 16 before finishing the regular season with three away matches: Oct. 21 at North Kitsap, Oct. 27 at Bremerton and Oct. 28 at Olympic.
