Wolves fend off scrappy Knights for big league win

The Sequim girls basketball team blew open a competitive game with a 25-point fourth quarter in a 71-46 win over Bremerton on Jan. 22.

The Wolves went into the half up 32-18, but the Knights made a game of it with a 21-14 third quarter to go into the fourth down just 46-39.

Sequim responded with a 25-7 fourth quarter to win going away, remaining perfect in the Olympic 2A League.

The Wolves were led by Hannah Wagner, who hit five 3-pointers.

“Hannah Wagner is back and she shot the ball very well today and played great defense. She was all over the place. She chipped in 21 points and seven steals,” Sequim coach Joclin Julmist said.

Jelissa Julmist had 12 points, 13 rebounds and six assists.

“She didn’t shoot the ball very well; she was double-teamed the whole night but did a great job passing it to the shooters,” coach Julmist said.

Jolene Vaara had 11 points and seven steals, while Addie Smith chipped in with a timely nine points. Taryn Johnson shot a perfect three-for-three from the field and scored eight points.

A Jan. 20 away game at North Kitsap was postponed; a makeup date has not been announced.

The Wolves (9-0 in Olympic League, 12-2 overall) were slated to host North Mason’s Bulldogs on Jan. 25; results were not available at press time.
