Wrestling: Girls squad takes second place at Fife tournament

Wolves host Kingston on Thursday and JV meet on Saturday

Sequim’s girls took second at the recent Rick Sales Girls Invitational on Jan. 17.

The Lady Wolves took multiple top medal spots, scoring 118 points behind home team Fife’s 155 points.

Kaylee Ditlefsen (145) won her weight class with two pins — the first in 44 seconds over Taylor Adriance of Rogers High School and in 2:41 over Mariya Gaither of Rogers.

Three Wolves took second in their weight classes.

Kiara Pierson (120) went 1-1 after pinning Ashley Muzquiz of Fife in 1:40 pin

but lost 8-3 to Taylor Dick of Elma 8-3 while Alma Mendoza (125) pinned Samantha Tietzel of Centralia in 1:27,

Sarah King of Rogers in 1:40, but lost 3-1 to Mariza Bravo of Centralia.

Andrea Kienholtz (155) went 2-1 with two pins in 1:47 and 1:50.

Sophia Cornell took third at 110 pounds going 2-1 with a pin in 1:03 over Jennifer Gonzales of Fife and a 7-1 win over Caitlyn Julian of Elma.

Aylee Bennett won two matches for fourth place at 135 pounds and Kiera Phipps (130) won one match with a pin in 44 seconds over Amber Blair of Rogers.

Head-to-head

Earlier in the week, Sequim traveled for a double dual meet to Port Angeles to face the Roughriders and Port Townsend Redhawks.

The Roughriders roughed up the Wolves 66-12 with Jamie Schroepfer (106) winning Sequim’s only match, pinning Nate Harrellson, and Kevyn Ward (152) won in a forfeit. However, versus the Redhawks, three Wolves won actual matches, minus forfeits for a 69-16 win.

Hayden Gresli (132) defeated Jackson Schlott 11-10, Hunter Davison pinned Tanner Minnihan and Michael Latimer (220) pinned Jacob Massit.

Sequim traveled to Bremerton for a 39-20 win on Jan. 15; results were not available at press time.

Sequim hosts Kingston this Thursday, Jan. 22, and the Sequim All Comers JV Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 24.
