The NorthWest Women’s Chorale’s annual winter concert “Hark!” will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 Lopez Ave. in Port Angeles.
There is a suggested donation of $20 at the door.
Presented under the direction of Joy Lingerfelt, the concert will open with “Gloria” by Ola Gjeilo. “Hark!” offers a diverse program of holiday classics from around the world, contemporary arrangements, and unique seasonal pieces.
The program will feature a blend of carols, both well-known and not, and powerful choral works that celebrate the winter spirit and the holiday season. Joyous selections include “Go Where I Send Thee!” and “One December Bright and Clear.”
The Chorale will also feature a new work, “The Savior’s Birth,” by Marques Garrett, which combines both spirituals and Latin elements, and Kirchner’s “Brightest and Best” based on an old Appalachian tune.
Other unique international selections will be presented, including Janson’s “Two Latvian Carols” and “Two German Chorales.” The program also features “When the Song of the Angels is Stilled” by Elizabeth Alexander, based on the poetry of Howard Thurman, a piece that encourages listeners to continue doing the “work” of Christmas with purpose and enthusiasm.
A tradition in these concerts is the sing-a-long with a few familiar songs that all are invited to sing. The performance will also feature collaborative pianist Kristin Quigley Brye and chorale member Charisa Silliman performing in two special four-hands accompaniments for two of the selections.
The Northwest Women’s Chorale is the resident chorale of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, ELCA. A pre-concert chat will be held at 6:45 p.m.
