Gymnastics: P.A./Sequim squad takes fourth at Lacey competition

The Port Angeles High School gymnastics squad — with athletes from P.A. and Sequim — took on teams from Olympic, Capital and North Thurston high schools on Dec. 20.

The Port Angeles High School gymnastics squad — with athletes from P.A. and Sequim — took on teams from Olympic, Capital and North Thurston high schools on Dec. 20.

In a tight competition, Olympia took top honors with 148.65 team points, Capital in second (140.55 points), North Thurston third (138.5) and Port Angeles fourth (137.1).

Sequim High senior Julie Pineau, an exchange student from France, scored three top-10 efforts at the meet, placing fifth on the vault (8.1), sixth in the floor exercise (8.0) and ninth on the balance beam (6.7).

Cassii Middlestead took fourth on the bars and fifth on balance beam while Elizabeth DeFrang earned four top-10 event finishes.

The squad is off for winter break until Jan. 7, when they travel to Poulsbo to take on North Kitsap.
