Sequim’s Next Level Basketball varsity (high school) squad, a team of prep players from Sequim, Port Angeles and Kingston, capped a busy offseason with strong finishes in the Pacific Northwest AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) spring league and competing in NCAA-sanctioned games in Seattle and Portland.

In the spring league, Sequim posted a 7-1 mark against teams from Eatonville, Steilacoom, Timberline, Seattle, Olympia and Tacoma.

The NCAA-sanctioned games included some of the top AAU and prep teams from the Pacific Northwest, with college coaches in stands scouting players.

Leading scorers from the Next Level varsity squad were Sequim’s Nick Camporini and Kingston’s Sam Byers, both averaging more than 10 points per game.

The team’s leading rebounder was Sequim’s Gabriel Carter with 5.5 per game.

Sequim’s Corbin Webb and Evan Hill were the top playmakers with three-plus assists per contest.

Other team members include Sequim’s Jayson Brocklesby, Dylan Eekhoff, Tim Guan, Josh McMinn and Kenny Meier, and Port Angeles’ Jesse Judd.

Middle school squad competes

The Next Level middle school squads earned several first- and second-place finishes in tournaments across the West Sound this spring and summer.

Eighth-grade team members include Sequim’s Dylan Chatters, Timariea Fortman, Jesse Francis, Joseph Landoni, Anthony Pinza, Zach Rigg and Aaron Witherell.

The seventh-grade Next Level team members are Alex Barry, Dustin Bates, Jerry Bryan, Josh Cibene, Josh Conomos, Brandon Fulmer, Josh McConnaughey, Alex Nielsen, Jackson Oliver and Grant Witherell, all from Sequim.

Coaches eye fall session

Sequim’s Next Level coaches in the spring and summer were Tom Hughes, Jeff Carter, Phil Langston, Larry Hill and Jon Eekhoff.

The fall session of Next Level began this week and runs through until the beginning of the middle school and high school basketball seasons.
