The ride from Port Angeles to the Umpqua Crossover Tournament in Roseburg, Ore., is a long one.

For the Pirates, chances are that road feels a lot longer coming back.

Peninsula was bounced from the tourney after two blowout losses, one at the hands of Walla Walla on Dec. 18 and one to Southwest Oregon on Dec. 19.

Peninsula opened the tourney with a 95-33 loss to

the Warriors from Walla Walla. After falling behind by 19 in the first half, Peninsula was out-scored 53-10 in the second frame.

Blair Musgrove led Peninsula with 10 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots while Jimesha Collins added eight points and three assists.

The Pirates shot just 23 percent from the field and were out-rebounded 55-16.

Kati Isham led Walla Walla with 16 points. Nancy Johnson had 14 points and 11 rebounds.

In game two, Peninsula was simply no match for Southwest Oregon, dropping a 90-31 decision.

Musgrove once again led the Pirates, scoring 11 points, blocking two shots and garnering both of the team’s assists. Neomi Cater added seven points.

Peninsula struggled from the field and on the backboards once again, hitting just 22 percent from the field and getting out-rebounded 50-15.

Megan Halstead led the Lakers with 14 points while Lindsay Sommers had 10 points and eight rebounds.

The Pirates get more than a week’s break before opening conference play at home against the winless Olympic Rangers on Jan. 2.

T-Birds race past Pirates

What a difference a half makes.

For 20 minutes, Peninsula’s women kept pace with their Highline Thunderbird hosts.

But P.C.’s poor second-half shooting (30 percent) and Highline’s voracious rebounding led to a 71-55 Thunderbird win.

Ariassa Wilson led Highline with a strong all-around game, collecting 14 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists and seven steals.

Neomi Carter led the Pirates with 16 points while Blair Musgrove added 14 points and team highs with eight rebounds and six blocks.

Peninsula gave up gave up 27 second-chance points and 36 offensive rebounds.

Highline held Peninsula sophomore Dena Houser to eight points.
