McArthur hits lucky seventh

David McArthur of Sequim sank his seventh lifetime hole-in-one on Aug. 25 at The Cedars at Dungeness. McArthur used a wedge to drive the 120-yard hole No. 8 at The Cedars.  Dian Woodle and Robert Mares of Sequim witnessed the feat.

First ace for Wyngaert

Sequim’s Lori Wyngaert sank her first hole-in-one on Aug. 26 at The Cedars at Dungeness golf course. Wyngaert used a 7-iron to drive the 114-yard hole No. 17. Cathy Grant and Jackie Davis, both of Sequim, witnessed the feat.

Paddlers potluck set

The Olympic Peninsula Paddlers will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles, for the group’s annual potluck and gear swap. Upcoming events will be discussed. The meeting is open to the public. See www.OlympicPeninsulaPaddlers.com.

Meet, greet P.C. soccer players

The public is invited to join in a special Peninsula College soccer preseason celebration on Sept. 8. The event, which will feature appetizers and nonalcoholic drinks, begins at 6 p.m. in the Pirate Union Building on the main campus in Port Angeles.

SkyRidge hosts September scramble

SkyRidge Golf Course hosts a three-person scramble, starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13. Cost is $90 per team. Honey pots are $20 each per player. Carts are $15 per seat. Cost includes gross and net prizes, team KPs, team long putt and lunch following play.

Avalanche hoops hosts tryouts

Tryouts for the Olympic Avalanche’s 2014–2015 sixth-grade girls basketball season will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, at Peninsula College, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles. Attendees are asked to wear a T-shirt, shorts and basketball shoes. Basketballs will be provided for those that need them.

P.C. sports icon dies

Jim Lunt, a longtime director of youth softball and baseball programs in Port Angeles, died Aug. 25.

Lunt was Peninsula College athletic director, student body president and central figure in bringing intercollegiate softball to the college in 2000.

He served as president of the all-volunteer North Olympic Baseball and Softball program for more than 25 years.
