Paddlers test the cold

The Olympic Peninsula Paddlers club meets at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, at the Vern Burton Community Center. This month’s topic is “Cold Water Immersion: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly,” presented by Dr. Sam Baker. The public is invited to attend. See OlympicPaddlers.com.

Anglers to talk salmon season

The North Olympic Peninsula chapter of Puget Sound Anglers is hosting a meeting of the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife North of Falcon from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 19, to discuss the 2015 salmon seasons. Note this time change: one hour earlier than the group’s normal meeting time.

State officials will discuss salmon season dates, catch limits and some new proposals to expand salmon fishing opportunities in 2015. Public input will be taken.

More information about the salmon season-setting process for Puget Sound, the Columbia River and the Washington coast is available on WDFW’s website at wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/northfalcon.

Golf for Softball tourney set

Raise funds for the Sequim High School softball/fastpitch program at the Golf for Softball tournament, set for a 9 a.m. start Saturday, March 7, at SkyRidge Golf Course, 7015 Old Olympic Highway. Check-in is 8 a.m.

Cost is $50 per person. Fee includes 18 holes of golf, range balls and lunch. Carts are $30 each. Funds raised help the SHS team pay for equipment, hotel accommodations and travel expenses. Call 683-3673 to register or for more information.

Night golf at The Cedars

The Cedars at Dungeness hosts a two-person scramble with the twist of evening golf on Friday, March 13.

Play begins at 4 p.m. for daylight nine-hole play. From 6:30-7:30 p.m. is a dinner and party at the course’s Legends room. At 7:30 p.m. is nine holes of par-three glow ball play, followed by an awards party at 9:30 p.m.

Cost is $80 per person. Fee includes 18 holes, party, awards (most outrageous outfit, KPs, long drive) and equipment. Registration is limited to the first 60 players. The Cedars at Dungeness is at 1965 Woodcock Road. For more information or to register, call 683-6344.

Yacht club offers class

The Sequim Bay Yacht Club at  John Wayne Marina invites Olympic Peninsula communities to attend an Introduction to Sailing class presented at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, in its clubroom. There is no charge for this one-hour presentation which illustrates and explains to novice and beginning sailors the theory behind what makes a boat go, the language, fundamentals and simple rules of the road. St. Pat’s run/walk set

The Port Angeles Parks & Recreation Department is hosting the Saint Paddy’s Day Fun Run/Walk on March 14 beginning at noon at the City Pier in Port Angeles.

The 5k and 10k run/walk starts at the pier and follows the Waterfront Trail out and back.

There will be shirts for the first 50 pre-registered participants and some prizes for best wearing of the green.

Cost is $23 per person, or $11 for 18 and younger.

Adult soccer league starting

Adult soccer registration is now open for the Sequim adult coed spring soccer league.

Sequim FC offers year-round, eight-on-eight soccer matches for ages 16 and older. The upcoming spring season features two divisions: a Gold division for players who want highly competitive play, and a Silver league. A women’s-only division is planned for the summer, likely combined with the Port Angeles adult league.

There will be a Champions Cup Trophy to go to the winning team’s sponsor. The first game is Wednesday, March 18. For more information or to sign up, go to tinyurl.com/kvysmxg.
