Comic Con comes to library

The Port Angeles Main Library, 2210 S Peabody St., throws an all-day, all-ages Comic Con starting at 10 a.m. Friday, July 24.

The Port Angeles Main Library, 2210 S Peabody St., throws an all-day, all-ages Comic Con starting at 10 a.m. Friday, July 24 with free workshops and panel discussions with visiting writers, artists, and experts, as well as other fun activities and prizes.

Deborah Skorstad of the University of Washington Theatre Department starts the day’s activities leading a hands-on costume workshop from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Limited space is available, and pre-registration is required for this part of the event. To register, visit www.nols.org, select “Events,” and “Port Angeles.”

Participants are encouraged to bring their own sewing machine and any specialized material they may want to use to build their costume.

Other events include:

• 1-2 p.m. Phoenix Dragon Martial Arts demonstrates some basic moves;

• 2-3 p.m. meet artists Matthew Holm (Babymouse) and David Lasky (El Deafo) as they discuss the comic book industry;

• 3-4 p.m. authors Lindy MacLaine, Lish McBride, and Lisa Mantchev discuss creating fantastical creature worlds;

• 4-5 p.m. Illustrators and writers Jason Fruchter, and Georgia and Scott Ball discuss their work for characters like “My Little Pony” and “Dora the Explorer;”

• 5-6 p.m. learn about graphic novels you should read and know;

• 6:15-8:30 p.m. CosPlay Ball for ages 12-18) allows participants to come in costume for a screening of “Guardians of the Galaxy,” a MAGIC tournament hosted by Anime Kat, costume contest and parade, and more.
