Guild’s thrift shop to be open May 2-4
The Sequim Hospital Guild Thrift Shop at 204 W. Bell Street will be open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 2-4, with lots of changes inside and out the shop.
Donations are accepted from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. each Monday and Tuesday and when the shop is open for business.
The guild is also accepting more volunteers; inquire inside the shop.
SHS sets plant sale
The Sequim High School FFA program is hosting its annual Plant Sale from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday, through May 10, at the high school campus, 601 N. Sequim Ave.

Soul Speaker Series to host speaker
International speaker and author Heather Plett will explore what the concept of “The Art of Holding Space” as it relates to death and dying at VHOCC’s next free and online Soul Care Speaker Series, set for noon-1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8.

Plett, author of “The Art of Holding Space: A Practice of Love, Liberation and Leadership,” will talk about what it means to “be the bowl,” how an understanding of liminal space helps us deepen our practice and why we’re sometimes tempted to “hijack space” instead of holding it. She is the co-founder of the Center of Holding Space.

City of Sequim seeks park host
The City of Sequim is seeking a park host for the Carrie Blake Reuse Water Demonstration Park.
The park host is a contract of services for six months beginning June 1, but not automatically renewed nor extended beyond six months.
The City of Sequim will provide compensation, amenities and services for park hosts: $200 per month for up to six months; RV pad site with electricity, water, sewer service, access to WiFi internet service, and trash pickup.
Applications, which include the park hosts’ responsibilities, are available at sequimwa.gov/624/Current-Opportunities, and will be accepted until the position is filled.

Held rebuild the Dream Playground
Supporters of the Port Angeles Dream Playground are seeking volunteers with woodworking, construction and other skills to join the community build during the week of May 15-19.
Skilled workers, they say, are defined as “those having experience with woodworking tools such as: hand routers; compound, Miter, table, jig, sawzall/reciprocating, and circular saws. Skills in framing, building, and finish carpentry are extremely helpful. Must be at least 18 years of age.”
Available shifts for skilled workers include: 5-8:30 p.m. Wednesday-Thursday, May 15-16; 8 a.m.-noon and 5-8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 17; 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and 5-8:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, and 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., 12:30-4:30 p.m. and 5-8:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 19.
Meals will be served for on-shift volunteers at 7:30 a.m., noon and 4:30 p.m.
“The Dream Playground Foundation hopes to have the playground open by the time local children are out of school for the summer, but that timeline depends on our ability to recruit enough volunteers, and especially skilled workers,” said Dream Playground volunteer lead Katie Blizzard Kiedrowski.

Yacht club to host eaglet photographer
Join Sequim Bay Yacht Club members on Wednesday, May 8, for a complimentary presentation by Keith Ross, of Keith’s Frame of Mind of Sequim, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the clubroom at John Wayne Marina, 2577 W. Sequim Bay Road.
Ross promises to explain how a one-time a petroleum salesman shifted his focus to photographer — and artist, live-edge furniture artisan, printer, framer, teacher, tour guide and author. He will describe the 2019 eaglet rescue in Dungeness that he photographed, how the photos were published in national publications for both kids and adults, and how they led to a book and plush toy set, “The Rescue of Eddie & Elliott: A Bald Eaglet Adventure.”
Ross, who came to Sequim in 2015, also is the long-time photographer of the Sequim Irrigation Festival events. Currently he is one of the artists exhibiting in the gallery at the new Field Arts & Events Hall in Port Angeles. His exhibit, “Life in Motion,” is open until May 18.

The Sequim Prairie Garden Club May meets starting at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 6, in the clubhouse at Pioneer Memorial Park, 387 E. Washington St.
The guest speaker will be Andrew May, a garden guru, freelance writer and ornamental horticulturist who knows “everything” about gardening.
The meeting starts with coffee at 10 a.m., with the program at 10:30 a.m. and lunch and business meeting at 11:45 a.m.

‘Tea to Die For’ slated for May 13
Death Café “Tea to Die For,” sponsored by Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County, is set for 4-5:30 p.m. Monday, May 13, in the KSQM-FM Community Room, 609 W. Washington St., in Sequim.
Tea, coffee and snacks will be served. The groups are free and open to all and do not require prior registration.
Conversations are held every second Monday. They are meant to foster relaxed and informal discussions surrounding death and dying and open to anyone curious about end of life.

Clallam County has opening on housing board
Clallam County commissioners are seeking to fill an opening on the Peninsula Housing Authority board.
This board serves Clallam and Jefferson counties and operates under a contract with the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) to provide and maintain low-income housing for residents of Clallam County.
Its primary role is to establish policy for the public housing program including personnel, occupancy, lease, grievance and rent collection. The board also selects and employs the executive directors of the Authority, who is responsible for day-to-day operation and carrying out board policies.
